Four-Peat for the Canadian Wildcats

Never before has a University Interscholastic League Texas high school won back-to-back state basketball and football titles.

SAN ANTONIO — Winning one state championship is a dream come true, one that eludes the majority of Texas high school athletes. Winning two is even rarer. Taking home three is simply insane.

So what does four state football and basketball titles over back-to-back years feel like?

Like being the first to climb Mount Everest.

On Saturday afternoon, the Canadian Wildcats breathed rare air.

Never before has a University Interscholastic League Texas high school won back-to-back state basketball and football titles.

Canadian did just that when they won the 2016 Class 2A boys state basketball championship, 56-46, over Muenster before 10,017 fans in the Alamodome.

Over a glorious 15-month span, the Wildcats captured the Class 2014 2A state football title, the 2015 2A boys basketball title, the 2015 2A state football title, then on Saturday added the icing with the 2016 2A basketball state title…
